ReplyDeleteMatthew, Glad to see you here. I agree B.

ReplyDeleteThe best answer is B. Let's see why the others are not.
ReplyDeleteA. is False a "tender vessel" has a relatively small GM.
C. Knowing that a "tender vessel" has a small GM would indicate KG , the Center of Gravity would be relatively higher up than on a "Stiff Vessel". so this also is False.
D. is a bit harder to consider. I have said before "a good GM is the smallest consistent with safety."
I would prefer a relative smaller GM than a very large GM because it gives you and the contents of the vessel a better ride with smaller roll angles and slower rolling periods. This said let's not be foolish and have a vessel that is so "Tender" that when you try to turn it the rudder forces alone will heel it over! This is what I consider a truly "Tender Vessel" does not have a good Transverse Stability.
Leter B! Thanks to the explanation, Cap. William.
