Daily License Questions about Ship Stability and Trim: I just think people need to have some knowledge in their heads, professional or otherwise. After 2007 our world has changed due to the advent of Smart Phones. Retaining knowledge is like being able to play a musical instrument, if you do not use it you will lose it! The questions I post with will hopefully help you keep what you already know or remind you of what you should know. William E. George

ReplyDeleteChoice B is the best answer. As I posted yesterday, "When comparing the relative positions of LCG and LCB the deeper draft will always be toward the end of the vessel closest to LCG." Using the LCG Method that assumes (or pretends) that the vessel's initial trim is zero, the change of trim is calculated which also results in the vessel's trim:
ReplyDeleteLCB-LCG = Trim Arm, Trim Lever or HBG on your computer.
Trim Arm x Displacement = Trim Moment
Trim Moment / MT1 or MTC = Trim in Inches or Centimeters
Again, another thing that can confuse people what happens if LCG is forward of midships? Well the vessel will trim by the stern as long as LCG is Aft of LCB even though both are forward of midships.
