The vertical distance between G and M of a MODU is used as a measure of __________.
A. stability at all angles of inclination
B. initial stability
C. stability at angles less than the limit of positive stability
D. stability at angles less than the downflooding angle

Just like a ship or a barge, the best answer is B. The vertical distance between G and M is always Initial Stability. On ships we normally do not use the GM Longitudinal because we calculate trim a different way. On MODUs we use both the GM Transverse and the GM Longitudinal to calculate list in either direction to keep the platform level. They both can have the same KG, however the KM can be slightly different due to the dimensions of the rig.
