A. initial stability
B. free surface
C. permeability
D. stability at large angles of inclination

ReplyDeleteIf the freeboard at large angles of inclination is too little, the ship is more subjected to have water passing through its main deck and it's the same effect of loading cargo in a high KG. Then It will cause a decrease in GM. A free surface effect will also occur since the "loaded cargo" is a fluid, decreasing your GM even more.
Freeboard has no effect on initial stability, free surface effect or permeability. It does affect the vessel's righting arm. GZ, because the vessel can heel over to larger angles before it gets its deck edge is immersed. So the larger the freeboard the larger the GZ!
