  2. Drag is a term used mostly on tankers. To pump off the liquid cargo it is necessary to have trim by the stern or drag because the suctions are located near the after bulkhead of each tank.

    Underway, trim by the stern also creates more drag aft than forward due more wetted surface aft than forward, so the vessel steers easy. It is similar to feathers on an arrow.
